Home for a month, 6 weeks since last surgery
We received news yesterday that Carl's cancer was more invasive than they first suspected. The pathology on his tumor that was removed was positive for perineural invasion(PIN) meaning that it was involved in the nerves around the tumor. This MIGHT worsen his prognosis as the 5 year survival rate is only 25%, meaning only 1 out every 4 people with this kind of cancer are alive in 5 years. This is hard news to hear but Carl is young and strong and we pray that he is in the 25%. We know that God still performs miracles and we need to continue to faithfully and boldly pray for Carl and Jody and thank Him for the many blessings that our family has, and will continue to have over the next few years.
None of us knows the future but we know Who holds our future in His hands.
Carl will get Cat Scans in February and next Dr appointment in March 2018.
Praises: Carl is gaining weight, walking more with better endurance and less shortness of breath. Abdominal incision is getting smaller. He is able to manage wound and ostomy independently. Home care discharged him as he no longer home bound. He can get his own socks on now, yeah! He was able to go to church and enjoyed the fellowship and worship.
Hemoglobin is 11.4(normal is 14-16). He is pain free.
We went out to eat, had not gone out together since last January. Carl is allow to sit intermittently so we enjoyed a “De Boers” breakfast at the bar.
Carl is heading up to Evart to hunt, this is so good for him, he loves nature.
Prayers: Carl has experienced signs of morphine with drawal, he is off the pills completely, but is very cold, aching, diarrhea and insomnia. The wound continues to close, he can gain more weight. He has the spiritual gift “of tears and emotion” as Dave Mustard likes to put it. This is not comfortable for Carl.
Jody goes to U of M for last follow up Monday 11/13/17, a friend is going along.
Jody needs to get back on track with healthy eating and walking.
We have had a year with many bends, bumps and twist in the road, thankful that God has been with us all the way.
“ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
Wishing all of you a special thanksgiving!
