Home for 10 days

It is good to be home, we have enjoyed the quite, beauty of fall and comfort of being in our own home. Praises: Carl is eating better each day, walking around the house and yard, abdominal wound is slowly healing and no infection, home health nurse and PT have been very helpful and supportive. We enjoyed celebrating birthdays and time with family these past 10 days. Friends and family have been generous with time and supporting us. Carl does not have pain, he is cutting back on the morphine slowly, in the next week he should be off this with out feeling sick. Colostomy is working, it is a process for Carl to adjust to this new body image. Jody was able to go to a planned retreat for 2 1/2 days, the theme was " The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe". Proverbs 18:10. It was held at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Thanks to family for covering for me so I could be refreshed. Jody's 6 month CT(cat scan )was negative, no canc...

Day 52. We are home 🎉

Psalm 118:24 "Ths is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it". We are so happy and thankful to be in our home! Carl walked outside, took deep breath of fresh air and enjoyed the beauty of Gods creation. Home health will start tomorrow, follow up with the Doctors in the weeks ahead. Thank you - thank you to each of you who have helped us in many ways, prayers, visit, cards, gifts, paying for my stay at the Renucci House. We give God thanks for his precious healing on Carl's body and heart. Keep him in your prayers as he needs his wound to close, put weight back on, to eat to sustain his body and build his strength. Grateful for each of you! Carl & Jody

Day 51, 28, 12

“Shout for joy, you heavens! Earth, rejoice! Mountains break into joyful shouts! For the Lord has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭49:13‬ ‭CSB‬‬ We were told this morning that Carl can go home tomorrow afternoon🎉🎶💕 Thank you for all the prayers! We need to get supplies for wound and ostomy, he has to go to IR tomorrow to have his Picc removed( it is tunneled), praying 🙏🏻 ,then home ward bound! Carl and Jody

Day 50, 27, 11 post surgeries.

We had a good day, slowly eating better, walking more, wearing clothes vs hospital gown. The Dr removed  a drain from Rt leg, he has one drain left. The abdominal incision is showing progress and drainage has slowed down. Hemoglobin continues low 8.6 (14-18 normal) this carries oxygen to all cells, will improve with increase eating. They are decreasing his routine morphine to 15 mg 2x day- with plan to get off this in one week. No more talk of rehab, Carl is doing great with activity. No pain or nausea...... praying they will stop TPN in next day or two. We informed staff we are planning a Birthday party at our home on Sunday. Love to all, keep on praying, God is good! Carl & Jody

Day 49 (completed 7 weeks) 26, 10 from last surgery

I looked back 2 days, the only new praise is that Carl can get in & out of bed by himself, then walks with walker. He is able to eat a little bit at a time now. The Dr this morning said maybe we can go home in a few days, we hardly dare get our hopes up. Carl put on pants and shirt, did a practice run of leaving the hospital, we enjoyed the breeze and sunshine. Please pray that he can eat more and be allowed to return to his own home. "I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint." Jeremiah 31:25 God has been with us,  we are thankful for his presence, there is no way we could of done these last 7 weeks with out Jesus, family and friends! Love Carl & Jody

Day 47, 24, 8

The day was very quite 🙏🏻, which we are thankful. Carl's sibling came for a visit and reminded me I need to update. Praises all is going well except for eating, Carl can eat a few bites and feels full. He walked 7 times so far today. We are weary of this room and place and want to go home ! Carl is still getting IV antibiotics, TPN( nutrition) and has incision with drainage. He only needs assist of one to get in and out of bed. Many blessing as we look back, we try to remember that God has it all figured out, we must do one day at a time and trust Him. We continue to look at God, praying the Holy Spirit fills us with patience, gives us wisdom- how we react to set backs, know what God wants us to do to honor his name. Love Carl & Jody

Day 46, 23, 7 days post surgeries

Carl is getting stronger, walking with one assist past 2 days. The dressing has been removed from his bottom and looks closed. Ostomy is working. His pain is controlled with oral medications. Foley is out and no problem with voiding. Praises for all of this! PICC (IV ) did not have a blood return, they tried to use a medication to open the line, eventually he went down to IR( X-ray) and of course it worked perfectly. Maybe it was positional, just happy it did not need to be replaced. Please pray for decrease drainage from his abdominal incision, they have pouched ( bag)  it so drainage is contained. Pray that his stomach will return to normal and he can eat again.  Carl is not hungary, only able to take a few bites of food, they have cut back on TPN. It still feels like a long road before coming home, however when we look back at this past week we can see the progress Carl has made. " We live by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7 From Jesus calling" though you ...

Day 44, 21, 5

It has been an exhausting few days, so hard to see Carl with pain, decrease mobility and his exhaustion. Yesterday his incision was noted red and firm, later he started to have clear drainage. They started him on antibiotics. The Dr doesn't seemed to be worried about this, he said it is not unusual for this  to happen when you redo a surgery. On a Good note his bowels are starting to wake up, Carl may have a full liquid diet, they are planning on removing foley Thursday, hoping he gets off IV Medication and take every thing by mouth. Carl is not very hungary Care management came into day and discussed Carl go to MaryFreebed or acute rehab care at current hospital. We were surprised by this, the Dr assured us this wouldn't happen suddenly. He wants him off the TPN and have bowels working. We are hoping Carl will regain strength and could go home from Blodgett. Please pray for wisdom , patience, healing and peace. Jody

Day 42( 6 weeks) 19, 3 post op

Carl had a good night , sleeping mostly , Valium has been kind to him, is alert yet goes to sleep when left alone. Pain is 0/10 when at rest. 8/10 with repositioning . He has not needed extra IV dilaudid as PCA is controlling his pain. He is not using as much narcotic since Valium on board. Carl stood at bedside 2 times yesterday, he is very weak, needs 2 to assist. No nausea, abdomin is firm, Dr expected this and not concerned.  Praises:  ostomy looks good, ostomy nurse changed his appliance and was happy how it looked. Staff is very good, kind, very respectiveful of Carl's opinion. Please contiune to pray for his  bowels to function. Hoping Carl gets up 3 times today, foley will be removed when he can get out bed easily. His site where cancer was is healing well, all incisions also look great.  The past two days have been quite and we are thankful for that blessing. No talk about going home, just "wait and see".  "Come to me all who are weary and burde...

He will need to get out of bed , walk to restroom, have his foley removed, when foley stays in he has increase risk for infection. Praise ostomy looks good, pain controlled, incision intact, no infection. Please pray for his  bowels “need to wake up”, Dr doesn’t expect this for 3/4 more days. Trust in our mighty God!
