Day 12 Saturday September 2

Carl had a difficult evening yesterday, nausea, vomiting and pain. Today they are going to place on IV line into larger vein near his heart(PICC)and start total parenteral nutrition(TPN). Carl said he feels much better this morning and had a good night. The nurses got him up and he had a shower, he feels so much better . Praises: slept well, Medication took care of nausea and pain. He gets out of bed easier every day, no signs of infections. The staff is doing a great job, good communications with Dr's. Jody is sleeping well and has perfect peace from God! Pray please: Healing in his "flap" and ostomy. Procedure for PICC line goes with any complications. The TPN gets started for nutrition, will provide for better wound healing. Surround Carl with Gods' perfect peace,that passes all understanding, that he may feel all is well in his soul. To keep hopeful and trust God with all his mind. I ask these same things for our children and grands! Love to all our dear family and friends. Keep praying! Jody

    I so value these updates and prayer guidance. Claiming God's promises is powerful. Another day of healing lies before you. Know that Carl, you and the entire family are covered with prayers.

    I agree with Pam- I look for your updates -- Jody you are so encouraging inspite of such difficult times. Praying for all of you to have peace, hope and trust-- during so many complications. May God grant you a "boring" day-- love to you all!

Home for a month, 6 weeks since last surgery

We received news yesterday that Carl's cancer was more invasive than they first suspected. The pathology on his tumor that was removed was positive for perineural invasion(PIN) meaning that it was involved in the nerves around the tumor. This MIGHT worsen his prognosis as the 5 year survival rate is only 25%, meaning only 1 out every 4 people with this kind of cancer are alive in 5 years. This is hard news to hear but Carl is young and strong and we pray that he is in the 25%. We know that God still performs miracles and we need to continue to faithfully and boldly pray for Carl and Jody and thank Him for the many blessings that our family has, and will continue to have over the next few years. None  of us knows the future but we know Who holds our future in His hands. Carl will get Cat Scans in February and next Dr appointment in March 2018. Home for 10 days

It is good to be home, we have enjoyed the quite, beauty of fall and comfort of being in our own home. Praises: Carl is eating better each day, walking around the house and yard, abdominal wound is slowly healing and no infection, home health nurse and PT have been very helpful and supportive. We enjoyed celebrating birthdays and time with family these past 10 days. Friends and family have been generous with time and supporting us. Carl does not have pain, he is cutting back on the morphine slowly, in the next week he should be off this with out feeling sick. Colostomy is working, it is a process for Carl to adjust to this new body image. Jody was able to go to a planned retreat for 2 1/2 days, the theme was " The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe". Proverbs 18:10. Day 11 post surgery

We are thankful Carl had a good night and day so far. He is getting out of bed with one assist. No nausea & taking more liquids, he will try some ensure by mouth. The Dr talked with him about starting TPN(total parenteral nutrition)today, he is scared to get a PIIC line. In all fairness I get it as every thing he has done so far has not gone as expected. Please pray that he can tolerate oral diet. If he can't that he will be willing to take TPN that would support healing. We appreciate your prayers for : Healing, no infection,Carl and family can process what needs to be done,for wisdom for medical team. Thankful- no nausea, getting stronger, we are sleeping and getting rest.Good medical team.
