Good news!

I (Jody) went to U of M yesterday for follow up . The doctor was very encouraging and kept saying “ how good I looked”. He didn’t have the same opinion as me regarding my weight. He said usually people loose too much weight.  My scans were good,  the test of my urine looking for cancer was negative. I will not have to return to U of M and will follow up with Dr Batts here in town every 3 months for next 18 months.  Carl is up to Evart, hunting..... life is feeling more normal.  Please keep us, family & friends in your prayers, be with anyone who is struggling with illness and not understanding why God allows this to happen.  I continue to experience God’s peace & hope, I am very thankful for this experience. Blessed  be His name. Jody  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Home for a month, 6 weeks since last surgery

We received news yesterday that Carl's cancer was more invasive than they first suspected. The pathology on his tumor that was removed was positive for perineural invasion(PIN) meaning that it was involved in the nerves around the tumor. This MIGHT worsen his prognosis as the 5 year survival rate is only 25%, meaning only 1 out every 4 people with this kind of cancer are alive in 5 years. This is hard news to hear but Carl is young and strong and we pray that he is in the 25%. We know that God still performs miracles and we need to continue to faithfully and boldly pray for Carl and Jody and thank Him for the many blessings that our family has, and will continue to have over the next few years. None  of us knows the future but we know Who holds our future in His hands. Carl will get Cat Scans in February and next Dr appointment in March 2018. Praises: Carl is gaining weight, walking more with better endurance and less shortness of breath. Abdominal incision is getting smaller. H

Home for 10 days

It is good to be home, we have enjoyed the quite, beauty of fall and comfort of being in our own home. Praises: Carl is eating better each day, walking around the house and yard, abdominal wound is slowly healing and no infection, home health nurse and PT have been very helpful and supportive. We enjoyed celebrating birthdays and time with family these past 10 days. Friends and family have been generous with time and supporting us. Carl does not have pain, he is cutting back on the morphine slowly, in the next week he should be off this with out feeling sick. Colostomy is working, it is a process for Carl to adjust to this new body image. Jody was able to go to a planned retreat for 2 1/2 days, the theme was " The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe". Proverbs 18:10. It was held at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Thanks to family for covering for me so I could be refreshed. Jody's 6 month CT(cat scan )was negative, no canc

Day 52. We are home πŸŽ‰

Psalm 118:24 "Ths is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it". We are so happy and thankful to be in our home! Carl walked outside, took deep breath of fresh air and enjoyed the beauty of Gods creation. Home health will start tomorrow, follow up with the Doctors in the weeks ahead. Thank you - thank you to each of you who have helped us in many ways, prayers, visit, cards, gifts, paying for my stay at the Renucci House. We give God thanks for his precious healing on Carl's body and heart. Keep him in your prayers as he needs his wound to close, put weight back on, to eat to sustain his body and build his strength. Grateful for each of you! Carl & Jody

Day 51, 28, 12

“Shout for joy, you heavens! Earth, rejoice! Mountains break into joyful shouts! For the Lord has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭49:13‬ ‭CSB‬‬ We were told this morning that Carl can go home tomorrow afternoonπŸŽ‰πŸŽΆπŸ’• Thank you for all the prayers! We need to get supplies for wound and ostomy, he has to go to IR tomorrow to have his Picc removed( it is tunneled), praying πŸ™πŸ» ,then home ward bound! Carl and Jody

Day 50, 27, 11 post surgeries.

We had a good day, slowly eating better, walking more, wearing clothes vs hospital gown. The Dr removed  a drain from Rt leg, he has one drain left. The abdominal incision is showing progress and drainage has slowed down. Hemoglobin continues low 8.6 (14-18 normal) this carries oxygen to all cells, will improve with increase eating. They are decreasing his routine morphine to 15 mg 2x day- with plan to get off this in one week. No more talk of rehab, Carl is doing great with activity. No pain or nausea...... praying they will stop TPN in next day or two. We informed staff we are planning a Birthday party at our home on Sunday. Love to all, keep on praying, God is good! Carl & Jody

Day 49 (completed 7 weeks) 26, 10 from last surgery

I looked back 2 days, the only new praise is that Carl can get in & out of bed by himself, then walks with walker. He is able to eat a little bit at a time now. The Dr this morning said maybe we can go home in a few days, we hardly dare get our hopes up. Carl put on pants and shirt, did a practice run of leaving the hospital, we enjoyed the breeze and sunshine. Please pray that he can eat more and be allowed to return to his own home. "I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint." Jeremiah 31:25 God has been with us,  we are thankful for his presence, there is no way we could of done these last 7 weeks with out Jesus, family and friends! Love Carl & Jody
